Retail to indoor car park: mechanical ventilation with an alternative solution
Part of an existing retail building on Carr Road, Mt Roskill, was converted into indoor parking. WePro supplied, installed, tested and commissioned the mechanical ventilation.
The challenge
An enclosed car park needs mechanical ventilation to clear vehicle exhaust, mainly carbon monoxide, to meet the Building Code (G4) and AS 1668.2. A conventional design runs large extract ducts across the whole ceiling, which takes space, time and money in an existing building.
The solution
The consented design used an alternative solution. Two jet fans push air through the car park towards a roof-mounted centrifugal exhaust fan. Three carbon monoxide sensors and a controller run the fans, so they work harder only when the air needs it. The project also included a fresh-air fan for the storage rooms, a toilet exhaust fan, ductwork and grilles.
What we did
- Supplied the fans, ductwork, grilles and controls to the consented design
- Installed the jet fans, the roof exhaust fan and the extract and fresh-air ductwork
- Coordinated the power and controls connections
- Measured and balanced the airflows, and issued a testing and commissioning report
- Signed a PS3 producer statement for Auckland Council's code compliance process
